Exhibition: The Fossil World of Bolt’s Farm
November 28 - December 1
Are you fascinated by fossils? Have you always dreamed of being a palaeontologist?
This exhibition is for you! The CNRS and the Ditsong Museum invite you to discover the fossils of Bolt’s Farm and learn more about palaeontological excavations.
From November 28th, 2019, the Ditsong National Museum of Natural History of Pretoria welcomes this new exhibition to celebrate several anniversaries: CNRS (80 years), Ditsong Museums of South Africa (20 years), National Research Foundation (20 years).
The exhibition aims to introduce the visitors to the South African historical and palaeontological heritage related to the evolution of biodiversity (including humans) between 4.5 and 0.9 million years ago. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about the activities of the palaeontologist, from the field excavation to the collection.
The exhibited fossils come from the Bolt’s Farm site, in the Cradle of Humankind, South Africa.
The exhibition will address the specificities of Bolt’s Farm and its history, the geological formations of caves and fossils, the scientific disciplines related to this subject, the journey of the fossil from its discovery to the museum and examples of emblematic fossils found on the site. In addition to a 330 m2exhibition space, young children will experience the palaeontologist daily life through an educational space of 70 m2.
